Old Louisville Hidden Treasures
Garden Tour Events

While the gardens are the premiere feature of the tour, over its fifteen-year existence Hidden Treasures has added new elements for its guests’ enjoyment.  Always a popular venue, the Hospitality Center in Haskins’ Hall, a part of the historic Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, offers complimentary refreshments.  It also is the site of a silent auction of garden-oriented items, including on one occasion a visit to your garden by Bob Hill of WFPL radio’s Homegrown fame.  Vendors, in the shade of old trees, offer plants and garden ornaments for sale.

Since 2003, Gayle Warren, owner of the DuPont Mansion B&B, has generously sponsored Art in the Garden where artists create and display their work and guests may stroll among them to chat if they like. Art in the Garden will make a return appearance in 2008.  The 2007 tour added three new features, a glimpse into two Victorian carriage houses that are now private residences, an exhibit by the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society and a partnering with the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival as they inaugurated their Bard-B-Que fundraiser in the garden of the historic Landward House.

The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival will host its 2nd Annual Bard-B-Que in conjunction with the 15th Annual “Hidden Treasures” Garden Tour. On Sunday, June 13, enjoy barbeque, drinks and live music in the garden of the Historic Landward House at 1387 S. Fourth St. at Magnolia. Stop by for lunch or a pre-show dinner from 12 noon-7:30 pm. Then make your way to Central Park for Julius Caesar (directed by Pamela Di Pasquale, Education Director) at 8:00 pm. Bard-B-Que tickets are $20 (no refunds) and are available at the door or by calling the Festival office at 502 637-4933. Proceeds support free Shakespeare in Old Louisville’s Central Park (season June 18-July 20).
